AFCON 2021: Three European clubs react as Tunisia sends Nigeria out of tournament

Three European clubs, Watford, Leicester City and Villarreal have reacted to the outcome of Africa Cup of Nations match between Nigeria and Tunisia.

The Super Eagles were beaten 1-0 by Tunisia on Sunday and have crashed out of the competition where they were expected to do more.

The Super Eagles had qualified for the knockout stages of the ongoing 2021 AFCON tournament in Cameroon after beating Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau to top the Group D on maximum points.

Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho will be returning to their Premier League side Leicester City immediately, while Samuel Chukwueze will go back to Villarreal.

Watford also have Williams Troost-Ekong and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye from the Nigerian side and the three clubs have Commiserated with their players after the defeat.

Leicester tweeted, " and featured as Nigeria were beaten by Tunisia tonight at #AFCON2021."

Watford tweeted, "Commiserations to Troost-Ekong & @OkoyeMaduka, who exit #AFCON2021 with #TeamNigeria after defeat in the Round of 16."

Tweeting in Spanish, Villarreal wrote, "El groguet @chukwueze_8 dice adiós a la #AFCON2021 tras caer los @NGSuperEagles en octavos de final frente a Túnez por 0-1.

Samu fue titular y disputó 75 minutos de la eliminatoria."
