EPL: John Terry in shock return to Chelsea

Chelsea legend, John Terry, is set for a shock return to the club after five years away from Stamford Bridge.

Terry is expected to take on a coaching role with Chelsea's academy.

The 41-year-old left Chelsea in 2017 and has sought to carve out a career in coaching.

The former defender spent three years at Aston Villa as assistant to manager Dean Smith, before leaving Villa Park last summer.

Terry stepped away from his role at Aston Villa to tour Europe in order to study other coaching styles and has been waiting to see if other head coach roles become available.

According to The Athletic, the former England international will return to the west London club to assist the youth development side of Chelsea.

The report added that Terry had registered an interest in a number of vacancies in English - confined to the top two divisions - but 'was politely let down'.

Having seen former teammates such as Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard take their first steps in management just outside the Premier League, Terry is hopeful that he can follow in a similar vein, beginning at a second-tier club.
