Champions League round of 16: Messi vs Ronaldo, the Pochettino audition

It will be Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo again.

UEFA always find a way, don't they?

The Champions League round of 16 draw has paired Paris Saint-Germain against Manchester United.

We have missed Messi and Ronaldo fighting to upstage each other during the El Clasico, but UEFA has decided to be gracious to us this season.

While Messi swapped Barcelona for PSG this summer, Ronaldo left Juventus back to United.

The Argentina superstar has failed to light up Ligue 1, but the Portugal captain is still bailing the Red Devils out in the Premier League.

However, Messi does his best work in the Champions League, where he is ably supported by the speedy Kylian Mbappe.

We simply can't wait for 180 minutes or more of PSG vs Man Utd!

PSG finished second behind Manchester City in the group stages, while United were confirmed group winners even before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.

Ah, Solskjaer.

Three years ago, after Jose Mourinho was sacked at Old Trafford, the Norwegian came against PSG at the Parc des Princes. It was after that momentous 3-1 win, capped by a Marcus Rashford, that Rio Ferdinand uttered those infamous words.

This time around, it will be Mauricio Pochettino auditioning for the job.

Pochettino was in the frame to replace Mourinho at Old Trafford before Solskjaer landed the job.

Ralf Rangnick has since taken charge of United on a six-month deal, after which he moves into consultancy for the next two years. Part of his task will be to decide on a capable permanent manager for the team.

The German will go head-to-head tactically with Pochettino over two legs and will be able to make a thorough assessment of how the former Tottenham boss performs.

So when both teams file out next year, there will be a lot in play. Most importantly, we have our fingers crossed for some excitement and drama!
