EPL: Carrick reveals who made decision for him to leave Man Utd as Rangnick takes over

Outgoing Manchester United interim manager, Michael Carrick, has insisted the decision to leave the club was made by him.

Carrick confirmed he was leaving his role at the club, following a 3-2 win over Arsenal on Thursday.

The 40-year-old took charge after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked on November 21.

The ex-England midfielder was unbeaten in the three games, winning against Villarreal and Arsenal and holding Chelsea to a 1-1 draw.

Ralf Rangnick has received his UK work permit and is now set to for a six-month spell as interim manager, but will be without Carrick.

"It's 100 per cent my decision. I respected the club and I respected the new manager coming in and I wanted to make the decision before I had any contact with him or spoke to him.

"There was no crossover whatsoever. I thought it was the right thing to do for the club and for Ralf. Once I made the decision, that was final and I was happy with that," Carrick told Amazon Prime.
