Roman Abramovich releases funds for Erling Haaland signing as Chelsea put three players up for sale

Roman Abramovich is backing Chelsea to complete a deal for Erling Haaland this summer, according to reports in Germany.

Thomas Tuchel is keen for the club to recruit a new striker and Haaland, who has scored 57 goals in 59 games for Borussia Dortmund, is Chelsea's top target.

Bild report that Abramovich is a huge admirer of Haaland and is not prepared to give up easily in his efforts to sign the Norway international.

The report claims that Abramovich has now released funds which will enable Chelsea to land Haaland this summer, although the deal would be expected to cost in the region of £150 million.

It's also understood that Chelsea are ready to balance that by selling at least three first-team players including Callum Hudson-Odoi, Tammy Abraham and Hakim Ziyech.

Reports in France claim that Chelsea are also willing to offload Kurt Zouma if their €30m (£25.6m) valuation is met.

Olivier Giroud is also expected to complete his permanent move to AC Milan this week.

Dortmund, meanwhile, are adamant that Haaland will be staying with them for another season.

Speaking to Bild last week, Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc said of Haaland's situation: 'Nothing has changed.

'We are still planning with Erling for the new season.'

The 20-year-old striker has a release clause between €75m (£64m) and €100m (£85m) in his current deal with Dortmund which can be activated in the summer of 2022.

Haaland's contract with Dortmund is due to expire in 2024.
