EPL: Manchester United identify alternative to Harry Kane

Manchester United have identified Southampton's Danny Ings as an alternative to Tottenham's Harry Kane.

Man United is among top European clubs seeking to sign Kane this summer after the England captain told Tottenham that he wants to leave the club at the end of the season.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Ings is an alternative option at Man United should Kane be deemed unavailable.

Man United have made an enquiry for Ings, who has rebuilt his career at Southampton following an injury-ravaged spell at Liverpool.

Ings is likely to be included in Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2020, having scored 13 goals for the Saints this season.

Man United board are prepared to spend a significant amount of their transfer budget on a centre-forward this summer.

Meanwhile, Edinson Cavani's decision to sign a 12-month contract extension at Old Trafford has bought Man United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, some time, but the Red Devils boss stressed after their 1-1 draw against Fulham on Tuesday night that the Uruguayan's renewed commitment would not preclude him from buying another striker this summer.

Solskjaer said, "We are looking to strengthen the squad. Of course, there are many, many, many things that you have to consider when you put a squad together.

"I am not saying that if Edi [Cavani] stays, that means someone else in a forward position won't come in."

Danny Ings has just over a year remaining on his current contract at Southampton.
