Panic at Stamford Bridge as new Chelsea signing suffers terrible injury

Hakim Ziyech has given Frank Lampard a huge scare after limping off on his debut for Chelsea in their friendly game against Brighton & Hove Albion at the AMEX Stadium.

The 27-year-old midfielder only lasted 54 minutes before being considered unfit for the remainder of the preseason encounter.

Ziyech joined the London club from Ajax Amsterdam this transfer window in a five-year deal valued around €44 million.

Preliminary reports claim the Morrocan winger hurt his ankle and might be unavailable for the Blues when the new Premier League season kicks off on September 12.

Academy product Conor Gallagher took Ziyeck's place for the remainder of the game, but despite his injury, Blues fans were delighted to watch their new signings.

Meanwhile, Timo Werner needed just four minutes to open his goal account for his new club after powering home a superb goal assisted by Callum Hudson-Odoi.

But Pascal Gross' late minute spot-kick denied Frank Lampard and his armies victory as they ended up sharing the spoils at the end of the meeting.

Not less than 2,500 Brighton supporters watched the game, with the match the first to be played in front of fans in England since March.

Apparently, this fixture will be repeated when the Premier League kicks off next month as Chelsea travel to the same venue for their first game of the season on September 14.

Lampard will now be hoping to have Ziyech return to full fitness including fellow new recruit Thiago Silva.

The veteran defender sealed his move to Stamford Bridge this week and could be followed by Kai Havertz before the September 14 clash.
